Collage.com is a 100% employee-owned, profitable, bootstrapped company with about 50 employees that has rapidly grown from $0 to $25 million in annual revenue since 2013. We're different from other companies: our innovative all-remote work culture was featured in a Harvard Business School case study last year. We're looking for ambitious, nice people to join us in our quest to bring great custom photo products to the world.

We believe in working hard to make our customer experience the best around. We'll give you the resources you need to do an excellent job, and we'll surround you with great people. We have high expectations, and expect that you do too. Because we promote working together as a team, we do not use stack ranking or other evaluation systems that can discourage collaboration.
Unlike some of our competitors, we're not beholden to shareholders and we're not a giant corporation, so we're able to put our customers and employees first in everything we do. That's why we offer stock options, health care, and retirement benefits to all employees, encourage a healthy work-life balance, and offer a no-questions-asked satisfaction guarantee on all customer orders. We make sure to only hire people we think will be successful: we want you to set you up to succeed on our team, not fail!
Oh yeah: we don't have an office. And we don't have any plans to get one. Why? Well, do you like commuting? We don't. We're nationally recognized for our 100% remote team, with employees working together in states across the country. The entire company meets together in person twice a year in Ann Arbor, Michigan to get to know each other and work on strategy. Last year, our remote work culture was even profiled in a case study by the prestigious Harvard Business School (we are the first all-remote company they profiled). Learn more in an interview our co-founder Joe Golden did with Remote.co about how we work remotely.
We'll give you the autonomy and resources to do your job well. We believe our team is happiest and most effective when everyone has control over their own working conditions and the freedom to make decisions that impact our company. We even offer flexible work hours, since everyone works best at different times. Learn more about what we value as a company.
Some jobs aren't that fulfilling. Collage.com is different: we make software and products that people truly love. Our fleece photo blankets were one of the most retweeted gifts of 2016, and were featured in BuzzFeed and Mashable. One leading executive told Forbes that she made a "priceless" gift from Collage.com that brought "so much joy." We hear stories like this all the time (check out the #GiftingLegend hashtag to see for yourself). If you want to work at a company that truly makes people happy, you should want to work at Collage.com.
"I like having the autonomy to implement ideas in the way I feel is best. My judgement is trusted and respected."
- Julian Kussman, Development
"Collage.com surrounds you with people who do good work, because everyone loves the work they do. From day one, I felt like a welcomed and valued member of the team."
- Kristina McLane, Marketing
"We have high expectations as a team, because we know our customers expect a great experience whenever they use Collage.com. We never stop working to make our software and products better."
- Chris Egner, Development
As a remote company, our development team is set up to empower individuals. The less time you spend dealing with cumbersome processes and inefficient systems, the more time you have to solve problems and make an impact. We believe in staying at the forefront of best practices so that we can focus on work that matters. We pass almost all of The Joel Test (we only fix high-priority bugs before writing new code, but hey, we’re a start-up), follow the best practices for continuous deployment (anything that is merged following a pull request goes straight to production), and have implemented a declarative unidirectional data flow system (like Flux, but on steroids) for our most complex logic. Difficult projects with extensive cascading data dependencies take days instead of months, allowing us to provide best-in-class design tools and iterate more quickly than our competitors with much larger development teams.
Our founders have Ph. Ds in economics and computer science, and prior experience in software engineering and research at Google and Microsoft. Everyone in engineering management is an experienced developer who knows how to build great software. Members of the development team are surrounded by peers who are knowledgeable, helpful, and have a passion for constant improvement. We continually challenge ourselves to make Collage.com better for customers, increase our efficiency, and realize our full potential as engineers.
Here are some of the keys to successful software development at Collage.com:
Our job interviews are primarily over the phone or video conferencing, so you won't need to travel or block off large amounts of time for multiple interviews in one day. We're happy to schedule interviews outside of regular business hours, too. Typically, our interviews begin with the people you'd be working with directly. Applicants advancing to the final round of interviews also talk with one or both of our company's founders. For development and project management jobs, we don't ask any brain teaser questions, but we do provide a short take-home assignment that is directly relevant to the job, so we can measure your skills outside of our standard interviews.
Not many $20+ million technology companies get started as a way to make an anniversary gift. But then again, Collage.com isn't like most companies. Learn about how we got started.
